Spinal DecompressionNapa, CA
People often struggle to find relief for chronic back pain. Medication may temporarily mask some of the conditions temporarily, but they require ongoing prescriptions that can be expensive, and often lose effectiveness over time. Non-surgical spinal decompression therapy involves customized treatments for lumbar and/or cervical herniated, bulging, and degenerative discs using the DRX9000. Our treatments are able to produce upwards of a 94% success rate for pain relief, using the advanced technologies our machine, and treatments provide.
Spinal decompression is available at Victory Spine Center in Napa and the surrounding area. This noninvasive therapy relieves pressure on the vertebrae, and rejuvenates the discs in the cervical spine, and lumbar regions of the back.

The DRX9000
The DRX9000 True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System is used to treat low (lumbar), and/or neck (cervical) pain. The DRX9000 provides a primary treatment modality for the management of pain and disability for patients suffering with incapacitating low back pain and sciatica. The system is designed to apply spinal decompressive forces to compressive and degenerative injuries of the spine. It has been found to provide reflief of pain and symptoms associated with herniated discs, bulging or protruding intervertebral discs, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome, and sciatica.
Alternative treatment
Spinal decompression may be delivered by specially designed devices. The DRX9000 True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System allows us to adjust the angle, amount of force and the amount of time it is applied. This noninvasive therapy relieves pressure on the vertebrae, and rejuvenates the discs in the cervical spine, and lumbar regions of the back.
The gentle stretching changes the position and force of the spine, removing pressure from the spinal discs by creating negative pressure. As a result of this shift, compressed nerves and other structures in the spine may have more room. Nonsurgical decompression offers several benefits, including:
- Enables the flow of nutrient-rich, healing fluids, oxygen and water into the area
- Promotes the retraction or repositioning of spinal column materials by creating negative intradiscal pressure
- Offers noninvasive pain relief
- Provides a customized form of professional relief
The procedure may work in conjunction with other types of treatment, including heat or cold therapy, electrical stimulation or ultrasound. Therapy in combination with a core-strengthening program and a deep tissue laser, which reduces inflammation. The treatment program typically includes 20 to 40 visits, three to four times a week for five to thirteen weeks.
Conditions spinal decompression treats
The spinal column contains and protects the spinal cord, which consists of nerves that carry messages between your brain, muscles and soft tissues. The nerves run through openings between the vertebrae to the muscles. Spinal cord compression is any condition that puts pressure on the spinal cord. It can occur anywhere between the neck and lower back.
Symptoms range from tingling and weakness in the arm and hand to burning pain or loss of bowel control, depending on the location of the compression. They may develop gradually or flare up suddenly. Nonsurgical spinal decompression can treat pain from the lower back to the neck. As a chiropractor, Dr. Nick Viscusi, DC uses spinal decompression to help address various issues, including:
- Herniated or bulging discs
- Worn spinal joints
- Spinal stenosis
- Degenerative disc disease
- Injured spinal nerve roots
- Sciatica/leg pain
- Facet syndrome
The indications for this therapy are broad. However, stretching the spine is not appropriate for all patients. Dr. Nick Viscusi, DC can help determine if this treatment is the right choice for the patient.
The Treatment process
During spinal decompression therapy, patients typically lie on a table fully clothed, face up.
A computerized table is equipped with a harness and pillow to keep you comfortable while positioning the spine correctly. It enables the lower half to move independently from the upper half. Dr. Nick Viscusi, DC selects the program that meets the patient's particular needs, based on the patient's diagnosis, current condition and responses to previous treatments.
The harness is attached to the lower part of the table near the feet and placed around your hips. As the lower part of the table moves back and forth, it alternately provides decompression and relaxation. Negative pressure is created within the spinal discs as the table stretches the spine.
Sensors can detect whether your muscles are resisting the stretch. Ranging from 5 pounds to more than 100, the weight used depends not only on your physical condition but also where you experience pain. The protocol for cervical decompression is lighter poundage than for lumbar decompression. Each session may take 30 to 45 minutes. We can go over any follow-up care with the patient after the initial appointment.
Customized care
At Victory Spine Center, we provide customized treatment to meet the needs of each patient. As with many conditions, the decompression treatment process varies from one patient to another. Some people experience relief during the first session, while others may need several to experience said relief.
